Description:
The McNab breed most closely resembles the border collie, although they are more "balanced" and less high-strung than their better known counter-part. They come in a variety of colors and have a very low maintenance coat. McNabs are very intelligent, quick to learn, agile, active, responsive, warm and affectionate, loyal, playful, and ready to participate in any family activity or take on-- with enthusiasm-- any "duties" which one might choose to give them. In addition to still serving in their primary role of a herding dog, McNabs now compete in Frisbee, obedience and agility, and are used as search and rescue dogs, all the time remaining affectionate and devoted family companions. The McNab breed is not yet recognized by the AKC and so cannot be shown in the conformation ring-- many McNab breeders would view this situation as advantageous, as the dogs continue to be bred exclusively for health and working ability/temperament rather than a specific appearance. The result is that the breed has few genetic problems and all the hardiness of a mix breed, but the reliability in personality and other characteristics of a pure breed. While their appearance admits of considerable variety, their health, longevity, temperament, intelligence, and herding ability are consistently excellent. The parents of our puppies, who both come from working and competition blood-lines, play an important role at our farm, assisting us daily to bring in our small herd of dairy cows from their one-hundred-acre hilled pasture for the afternoon milking. Our puppies are all well-socialized and come to their new owner having had a wide variety of experiences during their first eight weeks of life. They come with a health guarantee, and are dewormed and receive first shots before they go home.
